When I look at places like Shasta CA which have gone back to paper ballots, despite the officials there all being elected by the standard accepted voting machines without issues of fraud, there's simply no logic governing their thought processes... only a Deliverance-style hatred of anything new or different. To make voting as easy as a text... they don't want it easy. It's frightening.

Washington State went to only mail-in voting and using drop-boxes decades ago. I liked going to a polling place and casting a vote in person, but I have to admit the convenience (life-saving) factor of mailing in a vote is good. The idea of gaining millions of young voters by finding a way to vote by text, is fun to think about. More votes = more Democracy.

Oh, I'm all for it... I just see extremist GOP/militia types in rural America stopping it--they'd even try to stop mail-in voting if they could. (It violates the ADA, so they can't.) My point is... they don't want MORE democracy... they want less. They long for autocracy as they view it mistakenly as a form of safety. I think we just have to keep demonstrating that radical transparency and expanding the voting base benefits us all in the end--Make it age 16 and make it easier.

Neither President will do enough about Climate Change. The post-modern president does not get Climate Change because when they grew up Nuclear War was the primary threat.

If the two candidates are the same ones that it looks like they'll be, one of them will listen to advisors on the subject of the Climate Emergency, and understand scientific facts.

The may understand scientific facts but the will both trump the with the need to stay in power and we know that both them listen to Power first by the mere fact that there running for office.

Remember, the period that is happening often is because the old wave of power does not listen to reality. This is unfortunately well known. The neoclassical era started with the linking of the cable across the Atlantic, the modern arose when Germany continued to fight on after the defeat at Marne, and the postmodern arose when the Soviets detonated an atomic bomb years earlier than expected. Each time the leaders did not yet understand that the paradigm had changed. The same can be said of climate change, it is an existential threat but the old leaders do not understand what existential reality means.

That is why people like us are chiming bells for a new period: the rules have changed and the old does not want to recognize that.

You gotta admire the originality of this idea: text to vote ... Irony here is rich ...
