Paul Klee and Rembrandt
Paul Klee and Rembrandt were walking along a path that ran
next to a lake, outside of Amsterdam. They had walked for
some distance when both agreed to stop and rest. They sat
down off to the side of the path, near clumps of tall grass.
Between them was a smooth patch of dirt. Rembrandt began
a drawing with his finger. After a few seconds, there was
a self-portrait. Paul Klee brushed away Rembrandt’s drawing.
Picking up a twig, he made a single point in the dirt. Rembrandt
peered up from under his shaggy head of hair, and said, “So tell
me more about the twentieth century…”
