Write one letter to everyone and there will only be 26 people. No matter, matter is energy, or so Einstein said. “Get up. you Bugheads!” is quite likely something Einstein never said. I wonder if he ever sat looking out the window down at a street in SoHo, and thought about the alphabet. Another thing Einstein probably never said is, “Oh yeah, well, you can go piss up a rope for all I care!” In our own pure heart of hearts, sometimes we know a lot more than we do at other times. Down on the cobblestone streets of SoHo below, somewhere out there, is a person banging and clanging pots and pans, early, far too early at the start of day. The sun has barely butted its big head against the East River, and the words in our minds must spill out, be put onto paper, or driftwood, or just drift out into the world. Fire up your atom smasher, Professor! We’re heading into the Quantum Reality of one momentary morning out of a lifetime. Already, this day is too sunny for all the many kinds of contraptions, picture frames, interior monologues, wormholes, periscopes, bags of noodles, cats in coats, photographs of tidal waves – for our benevolent donkeys to carry.
