BORN INTO THIS WORLD
You’re born naked, which is good. You couldn’t afford to buy clothes at that age anyway. Gradually, some parts of living in the world makes sense. All of it never makes sense. From your first breath you know how to cry, which tells you something about life. When you learn how to laugh a significant part of being alive pops into place. Eventually, crawling leads to walking. Which leads to backyards with bugs and universal wonder, and walks around the block. You’re on your way, and daily questions grow inside your mind. During your elementary school years, summertime goes on forever. You fall and get scraped up, and learn how to ask why. You find out books aren’t just something to crack open at school. Reading what you want to read leads to escaping, thinking, daydreaming, and discovering. Mid-teen years lead to underage drinking and figuring out who you are in ways you never could’ve before. Sooner, rather than later, you’re on your own. You begin to decide whether you’ve got to move, or stay put. By this time, some of the world makes enough sense, so you’ll begin to feel at home within yourself. At last count, your life has already begun at least three times. Maybe more. In an ideal mood, this becomes something to laugh about. Sometimes crying tears of joy, at the same time.

Lovely sketch of a human in transition!
