What a fascinating chapter. The opening dream stayed with me long after I finished reading. The image of the metal worms, the loss of one’s human face, and the mysterious woman who restores it all felt deeply symbolic rather than merely surreal. It creates a powerful contrast between humanity and dehumanization that lingers beneath the rest of the story.

I also appreciated how the quiet moments with Perfecta balanced the tension before the larger world and its conflicts unfolded again. The chapter expands the universe naturally while keeping Allison’s sense of wonder alive. I’m curious to see how her role develops now that she’s stepping from observer into participant.
