Words matter, Russell. Because propaganda surrounds us, the path to taking care of yourself and all you love starts with paying more attention to all messages. It's work and a greater effort than sailing through the day and it matters more now.

Here's what's happening to your brain and every thought and feeling: Propaganda works by engaging subconceptual patterns — the deep, non-conscious layers of the mind where emotions, instincts, and associations reside. While appearing to provide rational arguments, propaganda often relies on emotional resonance, tapping into fear, hope, or anger. Repetition and simplicity are its hallmarks, creating a sense of certainty that bypasses deeper reflection.

Propaganda is more than lies. It is half-truths designed to manipulate you with doubt.

The solution for dissolving propaganda is questions. We get to awareness of what is going on and what is happening inside our heads with questions. Yes, it takes a minute or two to ask the questions instead of accepting the words. It's a learned skill that makes you stronger, safer, and smarter. Here's three questions I use. 1) It it true? 2) What if it was not true--how might it harm me or others? 3) Did you just combine an obvious fact with your lie or your agenda?

The favorite for propagandists is #3 and sounds like this: If you love your mother, then you will do what I tell you to do. If you love your country, then you will believe what I say next.
