We the people declare we’ve watched in horror as this new administration has dismantled our government, in a matter of weeks. Now we know what it takes to destroy democracy. Never caring about democracy to begin with.
We the People see the mass layoffs of essential governmental workers, as what they are – chopping the government to pieces. For no reason whatsoever.
We the People declare news is broken when all the newsfeeds do is repeat the same ridiculous lies over and over.
We the People declare we are interdependent upon each other, to lift each other up to get through these dumb, damaged, deranged, destructive times. We need to empathize, care for, and help one another during this atrocious madness.
We the People declare democracy, the rule of law, and the Constitution of the United States are all under attack – from the Oval Office.
We the People declare none of this is normal.
We the People are seeing massive cracks in this new administration’s one-party rule. Buyer’s remorse is quickly settling in – from those who were summarily fired for zero reasons, from those who believed lower grocery store prices would happen immediately, from those who weren’t expecting it would be them who had their rights taken away, and from those who are depending upon medical and financial benefits they’d paid into for their entire working lives.
We the People are OCD, and we love FDR, NPR, and the BBC.
We the People declare no other democratic country in the world wants the new administration to destroy our democracy from within. America is where other countries used to turn to in times of crisis. When a military coup, or a despotic dictator overthrew an entire county. Who do we turn to in our time of crisis? The whole world?
We the People want to hear every living ex-president speak up during this time of a coup-in-progress, want to hear them talk about why there aren’t enough voices rising up against a wanna-be dictator, and why the Republican enablers are supporting an administration that wants to do away with Medicare and Medicaid, and cut or privatize Social Security.
We the People declare this is our country, and we are not going along with this new already failing administration trying to take away our First Amendment rights of freedom of the press, and freedom of speech. Both of these are rights are in the Constitution of the United States of America.
We the People declare we aren’t shocked or surprised that the new administration is now going after Habitat for Humanity. They hate anything that selflessly serves, helps, and makes people’s live better.
We the People see how the court rulings are being ignored, and how the highest court in the land is complicit in the coup. When justice turns a blind eye, our vision gets clearer.
We the People declare everything that’s happened in the last two months should be a warning to non-voters. As people have been saying for decades, every vote counts. Every vote makes a difference. Especially in a time when billions of dollars are buying elections, voting by mail via the US Postal Service has been damaged, and gerrymandering has corrupted the voting process. If these dark, dystopian times don’t turn non-voters into voters, nothing will.
We the People declare now is the time to save democracy. Too many agencies and departments in too short a time have been dismantled, smashed, and broken.
We the People declare by destroying NOAA, you’ve put every person’s life in the United States at risk. The Climate Crisis is real, even for elected officials who don’t believe in Climate Science.
We the People declare this new administration has chosen to destroy the health, the environment, and the financial stability of the United States. We think it’s time to start fixing what you’ve broken.
Well, WOW, Russell!!! What an articulate and comprehensive indictment. Lots of tee-shirt proclamations (beautifully and briefly captured truths.)
Another great piece of writing Russell. Thanks for the galvanizing words.
